Blocking a postpaid subscription
To avoid the incorrect platform behavior, do not perform the following operations with subscriptions blocked due to the payment expiration:
- Activating subscriptions manually.
- Closing the subscription charges manually.
- Changing the quantity of resources.
- Renewing subscriptions manually.
- Switching the subscription plan.
For subscriptions blocked due to exceeding the subscription credit limit for the current billing period, renewal and activation of the subscription, changing the quantity of resources, and switching the plan are not available.
In this article:
Conditions of subscriptions transition to the Blocked status
Subscriptions are blocked only within the Postpay model (see Creating an account class). A subscription is blocked automatically in the following cases:
The subscription stop grace period is expired for a subscription linked via an invoice (see Viewing details of the invoice for the Postpay charging model) to a payment in the Expired status (see Payment for rendered services).
Exception — subscriptions with the Monthly Commitment and Monthly Calendar Commitment billing types. Instead of blocking due to an expired payment, such subscriptions continue to work, but get the Graced status, and prolong orders continue to be created and completed automatically until a subscription expires. Manual prolonging is also available. A subscription gets the Active status when all the expired payments are paid.
- The current debt of the subscription depending on the billing type exceeded the subscription credit limit that was set at the following level:
- The account class level, if the subscription credit limit is not redefined on the account level (see Creating an account class).
- The account level, if the subscription credit limit is not redefined on the subscription level (see Viewing and updating account's details).
- The subscription level, if the subscription credit limit is redefined on the subscription level (see Viewing and updating subscription's details).
The comparison of the current debt and subscription credit limit is triggered by the following events:
- The subscription credit limit has been changed.
- The status of a charge for the current billing period has been changed.
For Pay as you go services, the blocked charge is separately compared with the subscription credit limit.
- For the Monthly Prolongation, Monthly Commitment, and Pay as you go (external) billing types, the current debt equals the total amount of charges in the Blocked and New statuses of a subscription only for the current billing period.
- For other billing types, the current debt equals the total amount of all charges in the Blocked and New statuses of a subscription.
The behavior of charges when a subscription gets the Blocked status
The behavior of charges when a subscription gets the Blocked status is similar to stopping a subscription with the corresponding billing type (see Particular aspects of charges within the Postpay charging model, Splitting of charges when a subscription is stopped, Charges for the subscriptions with different billing types).
Activating blocked subscriptions
Activating subscriptions blocked due to the payment expiration
Blocked subscriptions are activated automatically when the related payment gets the Completed or Paid from balance status (see Paying for the subscriptions that are linked to the invoice for the Postpay charging model). At the same time, unprocessed manual operations for stopping these subscriptions are declined automatically (if any, see Manual operations). If there are any other conditions for blocking a subscription, it remains in the Blocked status.
Activating subscriptions blocked due to exceeding the subscription credit limit
Blocked subscriptions are checked for activation automatically:
- Once a day, during the billing process — if the amount of all charges that will be in the Blocked status after the subscription activation is less than the current subscription credit limit.
- When the subscription credit limit has been changed.
During the activation process, a blocked subscription acts as follows:
- Gets the status that was prior to Blocked.
- Remains in the Blocked status without moving to the Active status — if the invoices for the postpaid subscription have expired payments.
Deleting blocked subscriptions when they expire
Blocked subscriptions that expired are deleted after the end of the grace and stop periods (see Creating a service term).
